BiographyThe artist first emerged on the world stage at age 9 when he won the coveted Golden Sharpie Award at the Cartoon Olympics held in Reykjavik, Iceland. In a past life his father was Rembrandt and his mother the Queen of Hearts. To his real life parents he was always full of crap. Mikel Mesh has been an Artist-In-Residence in New Orleans, Kansas, San Francisco, New York City, France, Upstate New York, and Hawaii. He is allergic to hypocrisy and fully agrees with Joe Ancis that “The only normal people are the ones you don’t know very well!” “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is King.” — Erasmus 1510
In keeping with my minimalist sensibility, for many years my characters have only had one eye. My drawings are part cartoon and part art. The goal is to express feelings, words and emotions in a unique way with minimal use of line to hopefully make you pause to ponder and sometimes to laugh. The drawings are more “artoons” than cartoons. William Blake said that “A fool sees not the same tree that a wise man sees.” An artist keeps planting trees never knowing what others will see. Most of all, I hope that my musings and drawings amuse. Life is plenty serious and it’s important to retain the playfulness of childhood on our journey. Life is also sad and sometimes my drawings and writings are meant to honor the sadness. Thank you for your time and consideration of my work. This website is a longtime dream that like all good dreams has finally come true. Aloha, |
